Reversible, Non-reversible, and Averaged Calculation

For a calculation with more than one port it is very important to select the proper clauses as agreed to in the charter party. A principal consideration is whether the ports are to be calculated reversible, non-reversible, or averaged which can significantly impact the calculation results.

The following illustrates how these the options are implemented in the BV Portal. Deviating from the example we've set up previously, we will use different example here to illustrate all options: a calculation involving 2 loading and 2 discharging ports like this:

Reversible:

The accountable laytime in each port is calculated and summed up. At the end the sum of the time used is deducted from the total time allowed and the demurrage (or despatch) is calculated.

You must select which ports are to be calculated reversible:

All ports reversible:

All accountable time used in ports in the calculation and all time allowances will be summed, then the demurrage (or despatch) is calculated.

Loading ports reversible:

If only Loading ports reversible is checked then all accountable time used in loading ports and all time allowances for loading ports will be summed, then the demurrage (or despatch) for the loading part ports is calculated.

The discharging ports are calculated nonreversible. Demurrage/despatch is calculated separately for each port.

Discharging ports reversible:

If only Discharging ports reversible is checked then all accountable time used in discharging ports and all time allowances for discharging ports will be summed, then the demurrage (or despatch) for the discharging part ports is calculated.

The loading ports are calculated non reversible. Demurrage/despatch is calculated separately for each loading port.

Loading ports and Discharging ports reversible separately

If both Loading ports reversible and Discharging ports reversible are checked then all accountable time used in loading ports and all time allowances for loading ports will be summed, then the demurrage (or despatch) for the loading part ports is calculated.

Also, all accountable time used in discharging ports and all time allowances for discharging ports will be summed, then the demurrage (or despatch) for the discharging part ports is calculated.

Non reversible

All ports are calculated non reversible. Demurrage/despatch is calculated separately for each loading port.

Averaged

Averaged calculation means that the time allowed, time used, and time saved/lost is calculated separately for each port. Finally, all times saved/lost are summed up and then the demurrage/despatch is calculated.

The difference with non reversible calculation appears if you have different demurrage and despatch rates and save time in one but lose time in another port.
